Is there a Biblical dress code?
The dress code is to dress modestly as per the Biblical dress. This is mentioned by Paul; To show ones breasts or parts of body will cause men to stumble and it is something Yahshua spoke about to commit lust by looking (Matthew 5:28) , this can only happen when you see a woman showing her body such as breasts or other parts i.e. thighs/legs causing men to fall who are usually not able to control their desires. This is entirely inappropriate. The Muslims took their dress code from the Jews but going so far as to wear Hijab is an overkill but the instructions to women on the dress code to cover themselves is actually a Biblical one that has been adopted from the Bible by even Muslims.
The word for "modest" apparel is actually a long dress that covers her whole body not parts. Secondly she is not to be shamefacedness, how can this be? If she is going to parade around with half chest then that is shamefacedness. Not Godly.1 Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;The word for "modest" in the Greek is "katastole" that cannot ever be a miniskirt or a short skirt of any sort. Biblically it is wrong to wear these types of dresses, even some might go as far to say that it is wrong for women to wear trousers that are tight as they can show ones crotch and according to the Bible these are considered men's dresses not women's and are an abomination to Yahweh.Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.
Men are not to wear women's clothes, some women who wear such tight clothes such as jeans actually show their figure and that in itself can be inappropriate even though it completely covers their body. Let's believe Yahweh for a change rather than argue about it.
In the Biblical times men wore long tight robes as per the women wearing robes that were looser but men also wore shorts underneath running below the knees with belts that they could tuck their robes into called "girding your loins", they could tuck the robes also into their shorts that would allow them to do something faster. We see this in the exodus of Egypt when Israel was told to "gird their loins to eat the passover".
Exodus 12:11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the Lord's passover.
I can give you more examples of how women are considered Biblically "naked" just by bearing their thighs, well does not a miniskirt bear the thighs that is considered to be naked?Isaiah 47:2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers. (3) Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.
Although symbolically applied to the daughter of the Chaldeans this shows in Yahweh's eyes the thighs being uncovered are a sign of nakedness and we can see many women in the West baring their thighs thus not appropriate.Lastly does a woman glorify Yahweh wearing these kind of dresses?
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."We are a peculiar people to Yahweh, when people see us they need to see people who are different from the rest of the world, if they are going to see people who are the same as the rest of the world then what use of us having a set-apart God and what of us as a set-apart people?
Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
What about the normal Western skirts and normal ladies trousers?
Women are fine to wear skirts as it is the normal attire for many Western women, even in Egypt many women wear skirts which only show parts of ankles so that would not make or qualify as an unfit dress however miniskirts would be something that would go into the category of nakedness and I am sure Christian women would not be wearing these one would hope. As for the trousers the ones women wear in the Western world would be ok as they do not qualify for nakedness, as explained above there is a difference between very tight jeans and normal office wear trousers.
