Can a Christian lose his salvation?
The question itself is not only interesting but shrouded in mystery because by asking the question we are actually questioning Yahuweh's ultimate authority, Yahuweh is sovereign and here lies the answer to our dilemma if we can understand it. If our maker has created us then He has the ultimate right over us. We can choose to follow Him and obey Him and His Torah or carry on disobeying Him to our own self destruction. This is not name it and claim it salvation. We forget that Yahuweh is a sovereign and the righteous judge. If He did not forgive Israel their sin when they disobeyed Torah and cast out the rebel Israelites from amongst them then what right does it give any ger (convert) gentile who becomes part of Israel to claim he cannot lose his salvation?
The churches today are full of such misinformation that you can continue to sin and still be in the kingdom.
What happened to the House of Israel when they sinned? Did Yahuweh celebrate them? Did He love it and said they are my people so what let it be or did He cast them out and scatter them so far in the different corners in the world that they are still not all gathered back yet to the land of Israel? Answers on a postcard to Rabbi Simon Altaf.
What we must understand is that salvation is a gift but the gift is not some cheap salvation that we can flounder around knowing our mistakes to repent to Yahuweh but only as far as we are willing to obey Him i.e. as that itself shows the work of repentance teshuvah in our lives else it will be meaningless if we refuse to obey Him but still claim to have eternal security. Is that not what most Christians are doing today?
Obedience is shown by our fruits, Torah works means keeping the Torah such as keeping the Saturday Sabbath, keeping the Feasts, keeping Kosher these are attributes of the set-apart life. You cannot call yourself set-apart (holy) by living paganism and celebrating it!
Let me give you an example, I met a Muslim who was baptised twice as a Christian but then reverted back to being a Muslim. Now you tell me while he decided to live the Islamic life style then is his eternal security still guaranteed? Its clear it cannot be but some would argue until the cows come home that he can still enter the kingdom. This man departed from the faith twice and the minute he renounced Yahushua (Jesus of Nazareth) he could not say he is saved any longer as he threw his salvation away in the garbage can. Now this is a true example of a man throwing his gift away. One can receive a gift in elation but can also mock the giver by discarding it later. I pray you are not in that camp.
Its clear to me that this Muslim man was a mocker. I once sat in a meeting where an Egyptian believer insisted that eternal security saves those who turn away from the Messiah and his commandments clearly ignoring many references of scripture that say otherwise. I could see the mocking look on a particular Muslim's face who was present in the meeting when I was talking about Yahuweh the God of Israel and he had a wry smile almost as to say to me, so what. That was the first day a catholic woman in that meeting attacked me out of the blue when I said Yahushua is the Son of God and YHWH and she had been coming to these meetings for quite a few months but this one word was enough to send her through the roof. I personally saw Satan in action and I rebuked her in Yahushua's name.
Matthew 10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
Could it be any clearer than that? If you deny Yahushua then He denies you because we are witnessing to gentiles in the world and this is where this scripture actually applies. So much for people claiming to be born again and Holy Spirit baptised but where is their faith? They don't even have their faith as small as a mustard seed. They put so much emphasis on the words "born again" but forget that you can only be born again with the word of Yahuweh from above and the seed itself is directly related to obeying and showing the works of God meaning how we obey Torah commandments but of course the Western Church has made a monkey out of this by running around with errant doctrines, once saved and always saved forgetting that obedience indeed matters.
God is the judge and He has the right to take or give life. Whenever we evaluate any doctrine we must model our doctrine on the Tenach (Torah, Nevim i.e. prophets and Ketuvim, the writings) and of course the Renewed Covenant to confirm everything. Let me illustrate when God took someone's salvation away and sent them to hell for pure and simple disobedience. That is correct just disobedience is enough to send someone to hell.
Korah's rebellion after coming out of Egypt
Numbers 16:32-33 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. (33) They and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit (She’ol), and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.
Korah and his band of men went deep into the pit i.e. She’ol or hell literally under the earth and there they don't feed you luxury meals but it is punishment until you will be thrown into the lake of fire so it is apparent that Yahuweh can remove people from their so called places of salvation if He so wishes and sees fit, obviously He knows the hearts of men, this is why Paulos (Rabbi Sha’ul) warns the believer by saying do not be conceited in your belief that you are some how special that if he not spared His own chosen people the Hebrew nation then why should He spare your transgressions (sins)?
Romans 11:20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not high minded, but fear: (21) For if Elohim spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
Salvation is only eternal and forever as far as our willingness to obey God and keep His commandments to the best of our ability, Rabbi Paulos shows very clearly that there is room for people to be removed if they disobey and that in itself destroys the idea of once saved always saved to be contrary to scripture, we have eternal security only as far as our desire to obey God but there is every possible room for Satan to try to deceive us. Think about it logically why would Satan be trying his level best to remove us from the kingdom of God if we could not be removed? Ultimately Yahuweh is the judge. Our salvation is not dependent on how many times I keep the Sabbath or how many feasts I missed in the annual cycle but do I even have the desire to keep them? Have I ever tried with my heart to follow them. If the church is bent on paganism then have I gone to a Jewish synagogue to learn them. There is no harm to learn from our Jewish brothers even if they do not believe in Yahushua (Jesus) as the Messiah.
Do I desire to keep his Sabbath but struggle because of worldly issues such as my job on Friday night or Saturday? These questions will not remove your salvation and God is equitable but these things can cost our rewards in the kingdom to come if we remain wilful disobedient. It can mean whether you have the first resurrection or second and you may miss the entire thousand years of reward. Yes that is indeed a reward.
The very reason that Satan is trying, should tell us that even Satan knows that although you are secured at present and the emphasis is on the word ‘present’ but he can make you fall from grace by making you disobey Yahuweh and even turn away from the source of life.
Exodus 32:33 And YHWH said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
Let me see the Pastors’ mouth opening wide who think once saved are always saved. So are you going to challenge God?
Yahuweh can blot out people’s names from His book and make no mistake about this, for those that rebel this is bad news. Therefore, eternal security is only as far as we obey and walk with Him to the best of our ability. It does not mean I have to be scrupulously in every commandment as I am bound to make mistakes here and there this is perfectly acceptable considering we are not in the millennium yet.
There is no security for those people who disobey Him and refuse to walk in His Torah, the law of God given to Moses. He has already shown in history the removal of the Ten Northern tribes of Israel who setup their own Sunday services so to speak and their idols of Christmas and Easter and believe me Christianity carries these idols too that need to be removed. The day Christianity removes these idols that day they will cry at their lack of understanding but that time is yet into the future.
I hear you groan how can that be since Yahushua said in John 10:28 that He gives them eternal life and no one can pluck them out of His hand? Really the ignorance that is amongst Christians baffles me at times.
John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Usually the ones who quote you this verse forget to quote the full context. Yes indeed He gives them eternal life and they cannot perish but there is a condition that walking (Halacha of Yahushua meaning Torah obedience) is present and active now and not in the past.
I bet you don't even know what that means and you are confused already.
Yahushua's halacha is his sunna (the Muslim way to say traditions) so as to say in the Muslim sense e.g. we walk as He walked and do His deeds and works. Since Yahushua gives eternal life right now to those that repent not six months, nor six years later, the same way Yahushua expects us to walk with Him and be in Him always to have this promise. Therefore, we read in John 10:27.
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
The Ingredients
- Hearing My voice - In other words this is a Hebrew Idiom for Obeying what Yahushua commands and that is not just preaching the gospel which is Torah by the way and not the charismatic type seen out there by gibberish tongues but keeping Torah commandments.
Let’s examine this a little
Did Yahushua wear Tzitzits (fringes on four corners of your garment)? Yes
Did Yahushua keep the Sabbath (Friday sunset to Saturday sunset)? Yes
Did Yahushua keep the high holy days, the annual feats? Yes
Did Yahushua eat clean foods and avoid pork, shellfish, crabs and other unclean items mentioned in Leviticus 11? Yes.
Are you?
- I know them - To know in the Bible is another idiom which means you are married to someone thus illustrates a very personal husband and wife relationship. He is the Bridegroom and we are the Bride allegorically speaking hence a wife submits to her husband and it again calls for obedience to the instructions (Torah) of the husband. NO the wife does not have her own rule book on how the husband is going to make tea and how to wash the laundry!!! She might say it’s in the Bible, He-brews… Sure, you can brew tea in agreement that is fine.
- They Follow me - The word for "follow" akoloutheo is an active participle in the Greek meaning they continuously follow me or Obey ME.
The ingredient for Eternal security
Faith and obedience
John 8:51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man guard My sayings, he shall never see death.
Obedience keeps one's salvation absolutely safe and secure. We may fall short such as break the occasional Sabbath or do something wrong like did not check the label and it has pork fat and I ate all those shrimps that I really liked but He is fully able to forgive us through His grace. Pork fat may pollute our bodies with more cholesterol, which is bad for our health but it does not take our salvation away. Israel also ate the proverbial pork many times but God ultimately forgave them. When we fall short He is able to forgive as long as we repent knowing this.
1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath YHWH as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in OBEYING the voice of YHWH? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
This sums up beautifully what Yahuweh desires that we OBEY His voice, so what came out of YHWH’s mouth? How about the Torah of Moses, which was repeated by the Messiah to His disciples. This is the secret to eternal security and if we walk away from His voice (From His Torah to my own man made torah) then we cannot say we have eternal security. What are some examples of a man made torah?
Ø There is no God.
Ø I can be like God and be reincarnated many times.
Ø I will be resurrected because I am good in society.
Ø Gay lifestyle is my choice do not tell me its wrong.
Ø I am lesbian and I am proud of it.
Ø I was born this way so I do not sin by choice. It’s a birth issue.
Ø I have a right to life my life the way I want, who is God to tell me what to do, I do not believe in him.
Ø I am in grace I do not need to keep those outdated Jewish laws given by Moses.
Ø I am Christian what do you mean I need to keep Torah. That is only for the Jews.
If this is an example of your torah versus God’s Torah then you can kiss your salvation and your eternity bye, bye.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. (14) For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil.
One could say for sure that for eternal security it is important to walk as He walked (Feasts, Sabbaths, Torot) and obey His commandments that are laid down in the Bible starting with Moses and our forefathers. The commandments are not there simply to educate us though this is one purpose but they are there to show how willing are we to show our love for the God of Israel. By our fruits we will be recognised, it is not about who does it better but about who is even willing to do it! It is all about the desire friends! Do you have a desire but do not know how? Then go find a Rabbi even if it an orthodox one and learn how to do them.
The way I see it the choice is simple as Yahushua/Jesus puts it.
Revelation 2:26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth My works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
What are His works? Keep the Sabbath, feasts, honour His name to walk in love, compassion for others, show who is your God through works like He showed by doing the works.
Either we can have eternal life or...
Revelation 2:23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am He which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
Choose life for yourself that you may live and walk as Yahushua walked obeying the Bible and keeping the Torah and no it’s not done away. This theology is the incorrect theology taught in churches.
Torah is clear:
Deu 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
I pray that you choose life (written Torah and the living Messiah, Yahushua (Jesus of Nazareth).
